Car detailing is a service that the average person believes they can perform just like the professionals. Certainly, everybody has picked up a vacuum cleaner, some cleaning chemicals, and some cleaning towels and gone about making their car's interior sparkle. Similarly, they have bought some car wax from the auto parts store and added a beautiful luster to their cars paint.
But for the people who have sampled or taken a chance on professional car detailing, they are aware that there is a significant difference in what professional can accomplish with thousands of dollars of equipment and tens of thousands of hours of experience.
It starts with a paint finish that is scratch, swirl, and defect free even in direct sunlight. Then car wax is applied with careful precision so as not to get wax in between panels and on plastic trim. Flawless paint is made possible by the use of electric buffers and polishers in conjunction with the correct compounds and waxes. If you have seen a professionally restored paint finish, you can immediately discern the difference from an amateur's work done by hand.
And on the interiors, it is in tight places like vents, buttons, switches, between seats, etc. that truly professional detailers separate themselves from do-it-yourselfers. The trick is to use compressed air and very fine tipped detailing brushes that can find their way into very tight spots that a human finger or even the edge of a rag simply cannot clean into.
And carpet and fabric..these services get thoroughly shampooed I professionals. The tendency among amateurs is to simply scrub these with an over-the-counter carpet or fabric cleaner but make no effort to remove the chemicals afterward. This embeds chemicals in your car that can discolor these areas, although temporarily making them look very clean.
